Revelation 21:2 ESV “And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”
There is so much question as to how this will actually happen and what it will look like. As is true with many spiritual experiences, they can be different than expected but what is important here is noticing the general sense of holiness of this new creation that will be coming from heaven from Me.
Imagine for a moment a holy city, a city like you have always wanted or imagined wanting to live in. Imagine the architecture and the ornate buildings and streets. What would it look like to you? What would you like for the city to be and to look like? What would you like the people who lead the city to value? What is important to you in a holy city that you will live in for all eternity if you choose to come there with Jesus?
The city is referred to as a bride because everyone knows what it is like to be at a wedding and the bride begins to walk down the aisle. Everyone stands up and turns around to see the bride. It is a moment of awe and beauty, of something new and beautiful coming into our world. There is nothing quite as beautiful as a bride on her wedding day, walking down the aisle to her future husband. It is quite emotional and can be quite a holy moment.
This is how it will be when we reach the moment and it is time for the new Jerusalem to come from heaven from Me. I will take all of the requests of My people into account as I create this perfect city that we all get to share for all eternity.
Take a moment and consider what is important to you about this city and about your life in heaven when the time is right. There are so many ideas about what heaven will be and many people are not very interested in coming to heaven because they think it will be people hanging out on clouds doing nothing but that is not what this verse indicates. This verse indicates it will be a real city, a real place, holy and pleasing to Me, from Me, imagined by Me and perfected by Me. It will be the very thing you most want it to be, and you will find great satisfaction being there. All the times you have searched for the perfect place to live while you are here on earth you are actually searching for the perfect city that you will live in for all eternity if you choose to be there with Jesus.
Imagine it for a moment and let your body, soul, mind, and spirit all connect with the truth of this city and what it will be like to live there. Know that the time you have on earth is short in comparison to eternity and consider what in your life you can let go of because it is not really important in this city to come. Consider what you want to be emphasized in the city that comes from heaven and begin to emphasize that in your world now. This is one way for heaven to come to earth even now, before the end of time.
I so look forward to the time when it is appropriate for the new Jerusalem to come from heaven. I will not rush it because I want all of My children to be in the city…but I will hasten it as soon as I possibly can. Be like one of the virgins who was prepared when the bridegroom arrived (Matthew 25:1-13). Be ready for this moment. It will be tremendous!
