1 John 5:21 ESV “Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”
This passage comes directly after testing the spirits, God is love and testimony concerning the Son of God. These are powerful chapters in the Bible about what it means to be in Me and Me in you. There is so much about love, abiding, the power of Jesus…and then the very last sentence is this….keep yourselves from idols.
I am not being critical or judgmental. In the previous chapters you have the words of life given to you on paper. Chapters 4 and 5 give the fullness of the sense of the Father, Son, and Spirit. They tell of the water and the blood. They tell of the power of Love and they tell of Jesus being Me made manifest in this world. They are powerful chapters. I want you to experience them 100% in your life with the fullness of the words, unstained by any beliefs or concerns of this world, and so I tell you at the very end what you must let go of in order to fully experience the abundance of the chapters leading up to this verse.
The idols can be many different things…they are simply the things that you focus on, talk about, obsess about, worry about, etc. You already know what they are and you know that if you could rid yourself of them that you would have by now most likely. Idols are a little like a shell surrounding you like a chick has an egg surrounding it before it hatches. They surround you and they make you feel safe, but they need to be broken and removed so that you can emerge and live the abundant life.
I am not being critical. I am giving you the words of life.
Hand your idols over to Me, I will help you rid yourself of them. If you cannot do it on your own, you can always count on Me to help you with it. I am here with you, and I want what is best for you.
Simply come to Me and let Me know what you would like help with. I will help you!
