John 14:12 GWT “I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the Father.”
This is the first day of a 5-day series on some of the most powerful verses in the Bible. They all go together and build upon each other. You cannot fully understand one of these verses without the other 4 and they are most powerful when all 5 are understood together.
Let’s start with My guarantee in the verse above.
Notice your part – believing in Me.
Notice your part – it is a bold statement, one of the most bold statements in the Bible…
You will do the things that Jesus did. You will do even greater things because Jesus needed to come to Me.
Do not be intimidated by this verse because you think you are getting “too big for your britches”, thinking that you are equal to Jesus. Obviously, Jesus holds a place in this world that no one else holds, however, He is not the type of person who needs you to be smaller or lesser than Him in order to satisfy His place or His ego as though He were an imperfect man.
Jesus is calling you to be the fullness of Him.
He is calling you to take on the fullness of your identity in Him – the identity in Christ. He does not want you to be small. He does not want you to live small. He wants you to live the fullness of your life, but He wants you to start with believing in Him.
Why is this emphasized so much both here and in
John 6:29 ESV “What God wants you to do Is to believe in the one he sent.”
Other translations say it is the work of God.
Believing in Jesus is actually work. It takes effort and it takes dedication and devotion because there are so many lies out in the world about Jesus and about Me and the Holy Spirit that you have to be diligent in knowing Us as we truly are.
Do not believe the lies that we are not good or that we are harsh with you or that we do not love you. Do not believe the lies that we are a vindictive God who wants to find every fault and control your life.
No, this is not true. I am the great I AM and there is nothing better than Me in this world that you could ever want. I am the best of the best of the best and everything you crave and desire, you crave and desire because it emulates something in My character.
Believe that I am love in the full and pure sense of the word and not what others have caused love to be in your life. Know this, believe it and believe in Jesus!
Prayer: Lord, please help Me believe in the one You sent. I want to do the works that Jesus did and so I need Your help believing in Him.
