Matthew 6:33 ESV “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
What if you believed this verse and knew that if you sought Me first and all of My righteousness then everything else in your life would be added to you?
This goes along with the verse from yesterday, that I bless those who believe in Me and seek Me.
But this expands on it a bit. Seek Me first.
Can you seek Me first when things seem to be going badly?
Can you choose to spend time with Me when you have so much to do you have no idea how you will get it all done?
Can you pray to Me when it feels like life is falling apart and trust that I will take care of things for you?
What do you do when it looks like I am doing nothing?
I guarantee you that I am never doing nothing. If you seek Me first you can find out what I am doing and then it will make more sense even if you wish it would change. Sometimes someone else’s free will is getting in the way of what you seek and desire. I have to honor free will but I am able to work around it. Sometimes it just takes a bit more time.
For example…your child may appear to be off track. They may be lost in substances or in an abusive relationship and you have been praying for them for years. For years your heart has hurt and you have wondered if you will get a call in the middle of the night with news of a terrible tragedy.
If you have sought Me first you will know what is happening because I will share it with you. It may be hard to believe what I am saying but I will share it with you. It may be that your child needs to experience what they are experiencing in order to find Me. It may be that they are in sin and rebellion and I have to honor this but I am protecting them. It may be that there is a deeper healing going on than you can imagine.
If you have not sought Me, you will only be able to wonder what is happening and why things are not turning out the way you think they are supposed to be. If you do not seek Me it is impossible to experience all that you need because you aren’t able to know what I am doing.
I always bring good from every situation. Not all situations are good but I bring good out of them if you are following Me and seeking me (Romans 8:28). I do not bring good out of all situations though. When people are not devoted to Me, when their free will is geared toward evil or sin and not toward Me and righteousness then it is inevitable that things will go badly. But your prayers are powerful. Very powerful.
Seek Me and follow Me and obey Me in all that I ask you to do and I will share with you how to walk through this terrible valley of darkness that you find yourself in from time to time (Psalm 23).
Seek Me and My righteousness and you will find that things simply go better for you, even when they go badly, because you know they will turn out for good no matter what.
Do not worry or be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:6). Why? Because I am right there with you (Philippians 4:5). You are not able to not worry or be anxious unless I am there with you so invite Me in and then trust what I say to you.
Know that My word is true and I never break My promises. I am not a human being who can lie (Numbers 23:19).
Let’s expand upon that verse tomorrow! I have a lot more to say about it.
