Psalm 118:24 ESV “This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
There is such a focus on the terrible things that are going on in the world and I understand that but the truth is that there are so many more good things happening on a regular basis that get lost in the shuffle when there are bad things happening, even if the bad thing are very distant.
There really is something to choosing to rejoice because this is a day that I made. Can you trust Me enough to realize that when I create something it is really good and to simply enjoy what is good. When bad things are happening to other people, carrying the burden with them and praying for them is a powerful thing. Having empathy for their situation and doing something to make it better, if you can, is a wonderful thing to do but you cannot allow your own life to go into the dumpster because someone else is struggling.
If you are going to do this, you also need to balance it out with looking at the incredible things that are happening for other people and rejoice with them for the incredible things happening in their lives. Otherwise, the human spirit will walk away sad and dejected and with a feeling that life is not good.
In Psalm 91 you learn that I am available to be your refuge and your strength (verse 1). You learn that I will deliver you and help you find refuge (verses 3 and 4). You learn that even though people will fall all around you it will not come near you (verse 7). You even learn that I deliver you because you love Me (verse 14) and that I answer you when you call out to Me (verse 15).
These are truly amazing things to rejoice over.
And it highlights the importance of believing in Me and following Me, staying as close to Me as you possibly can. This world is filled with an enemy that wants to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). You can ask Me why I allowed there to be an enemy, and you can ask Me why I allow bad things to happen and I can have this conversation but, the truth is that there is an enemy who actively wants to destroy the lives of anyone I created to know Me. Oh, how I long for My children to allow Me to give them refuge. Oh, how I long for My children to come near Me so they can be in My protection but they site the things the enemy does and blame them on Me and they take for granted all the amazing things that happen every day without any of their influence or participation.
When it feels like the world is falling apart and you wonder how a good God could allow it. When you see that so many people do not believe in Me and you wonder if I will really allow them to experience hell, know this….separation from Me is hell. They are choosing separation from Me. Sure, you can say that they never had an opportunity to know Me but that is not the case. I have been with each person, everywhere in the world, for all of their lives and every single one of their days. I have created days to rejoice in for every single person, no matter what their circumstance is and, with the free will I gave them, they have to choose to see the good and they have to choose to see Me.
I am blamed for so many things that are not My fault. There is an enemy who is actively wanting to destroy you. On a daily basis, I hold the world and your life together and I hold the lives of so many people together who don’t even believe in Me in the hopes that they will turn to Me and seek Me out. I hold things together for them for years and years and years and years and then, when I allow something to get through to them that is not considered good by this world I am pointed to as the enemy, but I am not the one actively trying to destroy. I am the one trying to protect but you have to allow Me to. You have to partner with Me instead of evil and you have to come to Me and submit to Me so that I can protect you from the things the enemy wants to do in your life that will destroy you.
Of course, you will see the people around you and of course you will wonder but…can you take a moment to focus on your own journey with Me. Can you rejoice in all that I have done in your life and allow that to inform you whether I am good or not. It is so easy to choose to see the bad, to wonder why I allow things to happen and to miss that this is a day that I made and it can be rejoiced in. I invite you to rejoice and see if you see the world and the situation differently than you might otherwise. Maybe this way you will see the goodness that I am bringing in the world rather than the bad the enemy is attempting to bring and then, maybe you will align with Me and My goodness, staying close to Me and in My protection. I would really like this!
