Ephesians 3:17-20 ESV “…that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may…comprehend…what is the breadth and length and height and depth…to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”
So many people call out to Me “God, I just want more of You” or “Lord, I need you” or “God, I need more of you” or “God, I cannot handle this, help”.
Look at this verse carefully and you will find the very answer you seek when you say this…
Verse 20 “that you may be filled with all the fullness of God”
When you call to Me and say these things you are, essentially saying, Lord God – I need to be filled with the fullness of You in order to simply live and handle what I need to handle.
Yes, I want that too!
And it is possible. Look at this verse to see how.
From these 2 phrases:
- rooted and grounded in love
- comprehend the breadth, length, height, depth of My love
you can see that what you are really asking, what you really want to know is…do I love you?
Oh, if you could understand how much I love you. If you could live your life with the full and complete knowledge of how much I love you and that My love is powerful and sustainable and it takes care of everything.
Think about the prayers that people pray to Me. They are all around certain subjects:
- Safety
- Health
- Career / purpose / meaning
- Money
- Family / connection
- Being supported in the things that are important to you
Sure, there are others that come up but most can be melted down to these basic categories.
Let’s take these one at a time:
Safety:
Psalm 91:1-3 ESV “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the LORD, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Surely He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler,
and from the deadly plague.”
Health:
Jeremiah 30:17 ESV “For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord”
Career / purpose / meaning
Jeremiah 29:11 ESV “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Isaiah 30:21 ESV “And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.”
Psalm 37:4 ESV “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”
Money
Matthew 6:25, 33 “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?… But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
Psalm 132:15 ESV “I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread.”
Family / Connection
Isaiah 54:5 ESV “For your Maker is your husband”
Genesis 30:22 ESV “and God listened to her and opened her womb.”
Exodus 20:12 ESV “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.”
Many stories within the Bible emphasize Me bringing My people back together, creating a community, honoring marriage, blessing people with children, people having great friendships. Jesus turned water into wine so that a wedding could continue and the bride and groom would not be put to shame. There are so many stories I could go on for a very long time in this area.
Being supported in things that are important to you:
Exodus 17:11 ESV “Whenever Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed, and whenever he lowered his hand, Amalek prevailed.”
When someone lost an axe head in the water I helped retrieve it because it was important to the man who lost it.
2 Kings 6:6 ESV “he cut off a stick and threw it in there and made the iron float.”
Do you see the commonalities in all of these things? Do you see what you are actually worrying about when you pray to me about all the things you pray. You are actually asking Me – “do You love me?”, “will You really take care of me?”
So, return to the first verse from today.
Know, the depth of My love for you. Assume that I love you. Know that I love you. Believe that I love you even more than you can ever ask or imagine. All of your prayers and requests can be answered with one thing “Yes, I love you. I will take care of you and your situation no matter what it is. I have a much larger perspective of what is going on. Do you trust Me to answer your prayer the way you desire or even better? Do you trust Me to show you that I love you?”
If you come to every situation with the knowledge of My love, each situation will feel very very different.
If you recognize that in most of your prayers you are not only asking for what you are asking for but you are asking Me – do You love me? Are you powerful? Do you care? Are your promises really true? Can I really trust You?
Those are the underlying questions.
If you know the answer to every single one of these questions is “yes” then life will feel much more joyful and peaceful. If you question My love, My power, My care for you and whether I keep My promises your life will be much more difficult and unpleasant and have a lot more worry.
So, move your perspective from the problems and issues and put them, instead, on Me and My love for you. Delight yourself in Me. Love Me with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. Dwell in My shelter and My refuge. Believe that I am good, beyond what you even know of as good.
Yes, there is a lot of evidence to the contrary for other people. There is sin in the world that makes certain things truly terrible. There are circumstances that make you doubt Me but….I did not promise a world without tribulation (John 16:33) but you have got to keep a longer-term perspective and a heavenly perspective. You have got to know that I have a lot more information than you do and I know what I am doing.
Your part is making Me your refuge so that I have your permission to keep you safe. Stay close to Me so that I can protect you. Delight yourself in Me so that I can give you the desires of your heart. Know that I am not only your maker but your husband. Know that if I prevent something in your life it is for your good. But most of all, know that My love is better than anything else you will ever experience in this world so even if I do not give you something you want, it will not satisfy you the way My love will. Yes, there is a lot of life to live while you are here on earth but there is a whole lot more to be lived in heaven for all eternity and all tears will be wiped away, and all joy will be restored. It’s better than you can even imagine. Hang in there with Me. Trust Me and KNOW that I love you and when you pray, simply release the prayers to Me with the words “God, I know that You love me dearly and You will do amazing things with this prayer.”
Let Me love you and let Me show you My love in ways that you could never imagine…even if I don’t answer your prayers the way you want. I will answer them in a better way. Trust Me and it will make the entire process so much easier and more enjoyable.
