John 18:19 ESV “The high priest then questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.”
The context of this verse is that Jesus has been arrested and is in front of the high priest and is being questioned about who He is and He is being condemned by the very people I put in charge to welcome and exalt Him and Me.
As you go through life you will experience a number of offenses and you will be treated poorly in many cases. Notice that during Jesus’ life He dealt with these different ways at different times. Sometimes He would speak openly about their approach (Matthew 23:27) and here He reminds them that He taught openly in the synagogues, so they already know about His disciples and His teaching.
When you are mistreated, when you have offenses done against you, when you are treated inappropriately, each situation will require a different response. In each case, however, it is essential that you partner with Me to be able to handle it well. Jesus said that He did what He saw Me do and said what He heard Me say and this is what will be needed from you in those times. You will need to ask the Holy Spirit to express Himself through you so that you have the fruits of the Spirit that will be essential in these moments, particularly self-control.
Becoming a Jesus follower is the absolutely best thing you could ever possibly do…but it is not the easiest! You will be questioned, rejected, expected to live at a higher standard, asked to love those you do not want to love, and you will gain all the benefits of being My child as a result. It is so worth the trade! All that happens while you are on this earth is minor in comparison to what will be available as a follower of Jesus.
Do not be surprised when things do not go the way you expect, there is a better plan in mind and sometimes things have to go badly so that you can experience what it is like to walk in Jesus’ shoes…so that you can be more and more like Him.
Don’t worry when people who are very much off track in life question the way you do things as the high priest questioned Jesus at this time. It is irrelevant in the overall scheme of things. Do not partner with the enemy and fight when it is time to submit or submit when it is time to fight but most of all know that I am fighting your battles for you.
