Luke 14:33 ESV “So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.”
This verse helps us finish out this week really nicely. Keep reading tomorrow for the last message of this series.
Many believe this verse means you need to reject everything in the world in order to follow Me. They see it as a burden and toil to do this. But, for those who really know Me and who really follow Jesus you find that nothing else compares and so renouncing anything else simply is not an issue. It is not that I ask you to walk away from everything good in your life…it is that I give you something so much better so that you simply want to walk away from everything else that is less and walk toward that which is so much more.
See Me with abundance. Read the Bible from a place of abundance. Listen to pastors who teach truth about My Kingdom and not ones that speak only of suffering and difficulty. Sure, there is plenty of suffering and difficulty in this world. After all, satan is actively stealing, killing, and destroying. Fight the darkness by loving, trusting, and enjoying Me and all that I have put within you. You cannot be perfect in this world. But you can certainly do all that you can to love and know Me so that you are close to perfection and can model what I show you.
I am so much better than anything else in the world. As you know Me more and more you will have no problem renouncing anything else that is not Me. It will come naturally. Simply love Me and let it all happen from this overflow. Stop worrying about all the little things that don’t matter, and the things you have feared all your life. Come to Me and experience the rest, the joy, the peace and the fullness of the life I created you for.
The suffering comes from holding on to the things that don’t really matter to you any longer.
