Isaiah 60:22 ESV “I am the LORD; in its time I will hasten it.”
Do you know what the hardest part of patience and waiting is? The doubts and fears that roll through your mind as you wonder if what I have promised will ever happen. You are afraid that it will not and then you will have a crisis of faith but you are already having a crisis of faith by questioning or wondering if what I have said is true. You explain it way by saying that maybe you heard Me wrong but your biggest fear is to be put to shame by trusting in Me and Me not showing up powerfully.
But look how I bring things together. I am very consistent.
- I put something in your heart or in your life that you deeply desire.
- I tell you that I will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4).
- I ask you to wait for the desires of your heart BECAUSE the desires you start with are only a shadow of the desires you really have. I takes some time to really learn what the deepest desires of your heart are so I don’t give you what you want on the surface. I wait until your desires have had time to steep and deepen in your heart.
- I wait a little bit longer than you think you can handle because this is where two things happen:
- Your faith is tested and you come out with greater faith than you went in
- You realize that trusting Me and loving Me is better than anything else I can give you. You reach a sense of everything being impossible without Me and turn your eyes to Me, where all things are possible, stepping into the very life that is most satisfying.
- I wait a tiny bit longer and then, when you let go of the thing you think you want and put your trust and faith in Me, recognizing I am actually what you want more than anything else in the world…I hasten it and give you the desires of your heart.
It sounds convoluted, it sounds almost cruel sometimes except for the fact that I am actually giving you what you want…Me in the fullness of who I am. As soon as you have the desires of your heart you will discover that you want something more. This is simply the way humans work. Why? Because there is nothing in this world that will satisfy you…only Me. I don’t fault you for always wanting and needing more. I know this is true. It is how I made you. But the moment you can realize that there is NOTHING in this world that will satisfy you and I am the greatest desire of your heart, the sooner you will realize that you have no need for anything…not even the desires of your heart. You only have need for Me and I am right here. You have all that you want already!
This doesn’t mean that I will not give you all that you desire. It simply means that all that you desire will not satisfy. Only I will. The sooner you give into this truth, the sooner you will find the peace that passes understanding. This concept is clearly set out in:
Philippians 4:4-7 “Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
What leads to this peace?
- Rejoice in Me
- Be reasonable, not anxious, because you know I am right there with you (at hand)
- Talk to Me all the time and include things you are thankful for
Peace does not come from circumstances, it comes from rejoicing in and trusting Me to be there with you no matter what happens around you. This is where your peace comes from.
