1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 NLT “Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again. God will make this happen, for he who calls you is faithful.”
I have said it before, the greatest mistake the Israelites ever made was made obvious when they said to Joshua
Joshua 1:17 ESV “Just as we obeyed Moses in all things, so we will obey you.“
Why was this their biggest mistake. They thought they could do it on their own. They don’t ask for My help and they don’t acknowledge that the only reason they were able to do anything in the desert that came anywhere close to what I wanted for them was because I was there doing it with and for them.
They were slaves and had a slave mentality. It is impossible for a slave to know how to think like a free person after they have been in slavery for all their lives. It is only through My renewing their minds that they began to think like free people but here they show the mentality of slaves. They think they can do what is required of them. A free person would know that their freedom was provided by Me and the only way they can be free is to follow Me and rely upon Me for all things that are associated with freedom.
I don’t say this from a place of ego and I don’t say it because I have some need for My children to be dependent upon me. That would be like saying that the parents of a 2 year old are being egotistical when they say that the child depends on them for everything. A 2 year old would be devastated if they were left to their own devices. They would die. This is true also in the case of Me and My children. If I were to leave you to your own devices you would be devastated but many people do not know this. You see this played out in 2 ways:
- People who don’t ask Me for anything and take everything for granted and even tell Me that I don’t exist.
- People who do know Me and beg Me for everything that I am happy to give to you without you even asking.
These are both signs of people enslaved who need freedom.
If you are constantly thinking that you are taking care of all your needs….you are actually in slavery. Most people reading this are not in this category because they recognize Me as their God.
If you are constantly asking Me for the things I know you need – cars, food, money, clothing, jobs, all the basics…you are also showing a slave mentality. Of course, you are welcome to ask Me for these things but I know that you need them.
Matthew 6:8 ESV “your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
When a 2 year old asks for something to eat they are not telling their parent that they require food – wondering if the parent will give it to them. They are simply letting the parent know that they are hungry and it is time to eat now.
I know what you need even better than you know what you need. I see the entire future of the world. I know how much money you need to be able to make it to the end of your life because I know what is required at the end of your life.
Your concern has a lot more to do with suffering. You are wondering if I will make you suffer. When you ask for me to multiply the money that you have so it will be enough you are actually asking me to make it so that you don’t have to suffer. You are assuming that I want you to suffer and that I will only provide the very least amount possible to handle My obligation to you.
If your main concern is suffering, and not food or money or clothing then be honest with Me. Ask Me not to make you suffer.
Suffering has a lot of nuance to it. It is something people see as the greatest way to learn hard things. People see that Jesus and the Apostles all suffered and so they assume that a life with Me means great suffering. Some even make sure they are suffering all the time so that I cannot bring unexpected suffering onto them. Maybe look at it this way…being able to suffer is a spiritual gift that I give to the very people whose suffering will bring great rewards to the Kingdom. Jesus and the Apostles were not able to suffer until I put My Holy Spirit onto them at Pentecost. Before that they were afraid and hiding. After that they were bold.
If I need you to suffer, I will give you what you need to suffer. Don’t assume I need you to suffer from your own strength. Don’t assume that My greatest lessons come from suffering. That is a spirit of slavery and a mindset of slavery. Some of My greatest lessons come from the blessings I put upon you and the generosity I show you.
I have designed you the way I designed you. This means that, with Me, My help, My provision, and My strength you have all that you need to accomplish your purpose here on earth. Don’t believe the lies of who you have to be in order to be holy in the Kingdom.
Instead, know that I am the one who makes you holy. I am the one who does this because I am faithful.
You are My beloved 2 year old. I know what you need better than you do!
