Mark 14:2 NLT “But not during the festival,” they said, “or the people may riot.”
This is a strange passage, I know, to be chosen for a message but it demonstrates something important….timing and My plan. The leaders are looking for a way of getting rid of Jesus because He is inconvenient for them. They desire to be respected as the authorities in all things related to Me and Jesus is messing this up for them, so they aim to get rid of Him instead of considering whether something needs to shift in their lives or their concept of Me. It requires constant humbling of oneself to be a leader who teaches about Me. Constant humbling, or else you begin to believe you really understand Me and have figured Me out but currently you see dimly as though through a mirror (1 Corinthians 13:12) so you need to seek Me each and every moment to ensure what you believe to be true about Me actually is. But that isn’t the focus for today.
Today is about My timing. Notice how the religious leaders here are concerned about the proper timing for doing what they believe is My Will. They truly believed that killing Jesus was what I would have wanted because they failed to see the shift in My timing. There was a time for the law and for people to strive to keep the law, but it is impossible for people to keep My law perfectly so, at the right time, I sent Jesus to fulfill the law and the time shifted to a time of grace.
Recognizing My grace and the incredible gift Jesus is to the human condition was appropriate at that moment in time. Those who hold on to their egos over My plan stayed stuck in the previous time, when that time had been fulfilled by Jesus.
Those who recognized the shift began to see Me more clearly and they began to understand My plan and timing for humanity. You might be wondering what timing you are in now. Witlh all the religious rhetoric, division and commentary, it is clear another shift has happened. Many continue to hold on to the past…law & grace and, of course they are still necessary and valid but what is central now – the think that fulfills both law and grace is love and that is the timing now. Not human centered love but love that comes from Me through you. That is where the focus needs to be. You cannot bring Me to the lost and broken by telling them what they are doing is wrong and legislating morality doesn’t work. The Scribes and Pharisees tried that. The only thing that works is to bring people to the Kingdom in this timing is My love! Followed by discipleship…caring…and truth when I let you know it is time. We have to come to them, not expect them to come to us. This is how Jesus handled it. He came to you because you could not make it to Him and He loved even the most egregious sinners of the day until they experienced the love of God Himself and then He simply told them what they already know…stop sinning so that something worse will not happen (John 5:14).
