February 5 – Daily Message – 2 Peter 1:6

2 Peter 1:6 ESV “by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”

This is a very important concept! It is essential and it is hard for people to accept because there is such a revulsion to talking about sin these days but by ignoring sin you ignore the freedom from sin available to you and it washes away the amazing gift that Jesus gave you. Complete freedom, righteousness, and holiness.

Sure, the world will tell you that being free, righteous and holy is boring and not any fun. They will tell you that partying and frivolity and gluttonous eating and behavior is so much better but they are wrong. It does not even come close to satisfying any part of you and then you have to recover from it the next day…or the next year…

So, let us focus for a moment on sin so that you can experience freedom.

When I created the world, it was very good (Genesis 1:31). Then sin entered the world and the sinful nature began expanding and bringing things into this world that were not very good. This is essential to focus on for a moment. Really absorb this. It is sin that is getting in the way of the very good that this earth has available to it. It is sin that is getting in the way of your life being very good the way you want it to be. It is sin that has gotten in the way of My creation being the very good creation it was when I created it.

But here is the key. I had a plan from the very beginning and that plan has been experienced. Jesus came and completely irradicated sin. He came and, without sinning Himself, took all the sin of the world onto Himself to completely reverse what happened in the Garden of Eden when sin entered into it.

Do not get hung up on the question of allegory or truth regarding the Garden of Eden. Instead, focus on  sin. Sin entered the world. Jesus came to earth to irradicate the impact of sin so that the creation could be restored to the perfection that I created it to be. The difference in the before and after though is this….before Jesus came to irradicate sin, the possibility of sin existed. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil existed. But after Jesus irradicates sin, and after all of My children believe in Him so that their sins and the sin of others that impacted them are completely irradicated then the tree will no longer be able to impact them because their choice to follow Jesus supersedes their desire for the knowledge of good and evil. They have receive the knowledge of good and evil and have CHOSEN good.

This can be a challenging concept to get your head and heart around so let Me boil it down. If there is anything not good in your life it is due to sin. Admit this and accept this and then let’s have a conversation about it. Is it your sin? Is it someone else who sinned against you?

But don’t get stuck in the figuring out. Instead, get “stuck” on the solution which is Jesus. You don’t have to figure anything out! All you have to do is believe in Jesus and give Him all of the sin that He died for and all the sin He conquered through His death and resurrection. Do not get stuck focused on sin. That is like the Israelites getting stuck on focusing on the desert when the Promised Land was right there in front of them. Get “stuck” on focusing on Jesus and giving Him every bit of sin you have sinned and every bit of sin that others have done that has impacted you so that sin no longer rules in your life. Forgive and be forgiven! Not from your own strength but by receiving the fullness of the gift Jesus gave for you.

This is how you “become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.”

When you accept and absorb this your life will change drastically. Do not resist it like the people who choose to party and find gluttony in their lives. Instead, receive the truth and find the abundance promised (John 10:10). This will satisfy that longing within you!
