February 22 – Daily Message – John 14:14

John 14:14 GWT “If you ask me to do something. I will do it.”

This is day 3 of a 5-day series in a very important and powerful section of verses. I encourage you to read all 5 because they all go together and build in power together.

Take Me at My word, powerfully and completely!

If you ask Me to do something. I will do it.

So why do things not happen that you ask for?

  1. Timing: Sometimes things take longer than you want so you think they are not happening.
  2. Misremembering: Sometimes you ask for something and then as you move toward it your memory of what you asked for morphs and changes and then you don’t get what it has morphed into, but you receive what you originally asked for. Keep a note of what you have actually asked for and then revisit it as life goes on. You will see that I have given you what you asked for.
  3. The enemy steals it: I am very serious when I say that the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). This means that everything you ask will be opposed by the enemy. How can you fight this reality? You can believe in Me as I truly am and not as the world has made Me out to be. You can believe in Me as a good, generous, and loving God and so when things happen to the contrary you can give credit where it is due…the enemy is attempting to steal it from you. What do you do when someone steals from you? You get it back. You can do this physically or spiritually. Vengeance is Mine (Romans 12:19) so you want to partner with Me as you do this.
  4. You try to do it on your own: When you ask for something the natural reaction is to then try to accomplish what you asked on your own in your own timing. This gets in the way of Me doing it with or for you. There are so many things that go into achieving your requests including the free will of others, evil forces, and your own relationship with Me. I love to do the things you ask but My goal remains the same…to bring all of My children home to Me for all eternity. If your requests align with this then they align with My Will and you will find they are more powerful. This doesn’t mean I don’t want you to ask for what you want and need, even if it is frivolous, but it does mean that when your requests align with My Will, they become more powerful. In all cases though, don’t try to do things on your own. It always goes better if we do them together.
  5. What you ask for goes against My Will or someone else’s free will: When you pray it is very good to check in with Me and ask what I am doing so that you can adjust your prayers. If you have a friend who has bought tickets to a concert and you ask them to go to something else that same night, there is a good chance they will say no. If you ask for Me to save someone’s life but it is their time to come to Me then you will be disappointed. If you ask to heal someone but they have asked Me not to be healed (this can be for a number of reasons we won’t go into here) then your prayers will go against their free will. They will still have impact, but I do not supersede another person’s free will for yours.

Prayer: Lord, please help Me make good requests that align with You because this is where powerful prayer happens, but let me balance this well with my own desires of my heart so that both can be achieved. I know Your Will is ultimate and I know that you love to give me what I want also because you are a loving and generous God who gives really good gifts (Matthew 7:11).
