Romans 8:28 ESV “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Yesterday I shared with you that all things are possible with Me and I shared a misconception about how I work.
Today I would like to share another misconception so that you can be free from two of the falsities that keep a lot of people distant from Me.
The misconception, that is taught in so many ways, is that I bring bad things into your life in order to test you and teach you lessons and then when you pass the test and suffer enough good comes from it that would not have come otherwise.
This completely misses the point of who I am. It is an affront to My very being.
I am a good God. I am generous. I am loving. I am caring. I am so much better than people can even imagine. I am here to help you through all of the challenges you will face in your lifetime. You live in a broken world filled with sin. You will do best to walk through that world with Me so that I can love and protect you through all the terrible things that will come at you during your lifetime.
Sure, I could prevent all of them but the whole point of why I created you was to simply be with you, enjoy you, walk with you and share My creation with you in ways that are interesting and exciting to you. Sin entered the world and destroys the ability to do that in the fullness of what I had in mind (at least at this time) but we are still able to spend time together, be in a loving relationship, and I will be there with you every step of the way as you face all that you will face in your life.
The truth is that many bad things will come at you. The truth is that I don’t want these bad things to happen to you and so I ask you to come near to Me and to allow Me to be your refuge and your strength (Psalm 91) and I ask you to allow Me to be your protector and vindicator (Romans 12:19). When you do these things, when you love Me with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30) and when you do your best to see the world the way I see it and not the way that it looks from a place of brokenness, you will find that many good things happen and the bad things that could have taken you down, do not happen.
I don’t give bad situations in order to show you that I can bring good out of them.
I bring good out of all situations and all things. This means that when good things happen, I bring even more good out of them. When bad things happen, it doesn’t mean those things are good, it means they are bad, but I bring good out of them.
I have a daughter who had cancer and learned a lot of really wonderful things during that time in her life. It was a terrible time and she lost much of what she had gained over the years as a result of the cancer. During the time she was in treatment she learned a great deal about healing and prayer because she took the time to learn and practice…taking risks she had not taken before. But then, after she was healed, she held on to the pain and suffering in her body that resulted from the treatment. She believe that her ability to pray and heal powerfully came from the terrible situation she experienced but this is wrong.
What if we look at this differently. What if I were to tell you that I knew the cancer was going to try to come to her. For years and years and years I attempted to get her to learn about healing prayer and the power of praying to Me for all things. She was too busy and did not heed My call because she prioritized other, lesser, things. Because of this, when the cancer arrived she was not ready to fight it so that it would not come. Instead, she had to walk through it rather than around it. When she was in treatment she was not able to do all the other things that she had prioritized and so she took the time to prioritize healing prayer, practicing it on anyone she could…and this is the good that came from this bad situation.
My preference would have been for her to learn all about prayer and healing so that the cancer could not have taken hold, however, this is not what happened. I did not give her cancer to slow her down enough to learn about healing and prayer. The cancer was coming anyway. But I brought something really good out of it.
She held on to the pain and suffering from the side effects of the treatment for years…refusing to let go of them because she thought that the cancer and the suffering was where the power of healing came from. It took over a decade for Me to get through to her so that she knew the power and healing came from Me and from My generosity, not from her pain and suffering.
This is where I wanted her to go from the very beginning, but the journey she went on was very different than the one I had planned for her. Sometimes this is how it goes. I give free will and then honor it. The point, though, is that, regardless of the journey, she and I walked this path together. I would have walked both paths with her no matter what because that is the kind of God I am, but I walked the more difficult path with her.
What are you holding onto, wondering if it is the cause of all the good things that are coming from your life? Would you like to let go of that and take on the truth that I am here, blessing you, each step of the way and bringing good out of all things – the good, and the bad. I want to bring greater good into your life! You don’t need the things that you think lead to the good things. You just need Me.
