2 Peter 1:1 ESV “Simeon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ. To those who have obtained a faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ.”
This verse shows a very important concept within the true Christian faith. I say the true Christian faith because there are many “Christian” doctrines being taught today that are not Christian at all. This has not changed since the time of Peter and Paul when there were false prophets and false teachers. Beware of the false doctrines being taught in the church and make sure that you are focusing where you need to focus. It is not about rules and regulations about eating, music, worship. These are all preferences within the people of the church, they are not related to the gospel. The gospel remains the same and is shown here in this verse…
From the perspective of Jesus:
You have the ability to obtain the faith of EQUAL STANDING with Peter himself who walked with Me, knew Me, and laid down his life for Me. How do you have this ability? This verse makes it clear. Is it through your own righteousness? No. Do not believe the false doctrine of the church that says it is by your own power, works, tithing, or righteousness that you will obtain the glory of the Kingdom. This is important.
When you stand before Me on judgment day you need not be scared one bit. You need only to look at Me and say that it is because of Me that you are holy and blameless. It is not from your own righteousness that you will be saved, it is Mine.
Why do I tell you this?
Because I want you to be ready.
Let go of all else that indicates that I expect you to be the power in your own life or the joy in your own life. Hold on, instead, to the incredible love and righteousness available to you through all that has been planned for you since the beginning of time. Don’t fall into the trap of doctrine, works, or rules being more important than the most important thing.
Mark 12:30 ESV “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’”
Matthew 22:40 ESV “On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
The second commandment, of course, is to love your neighbor as yourself but I want to focus on the first commandment right now because if you can get that one right the second one falls into line easily. Truly, truly, I say to you – if you can get the first commandment right all else, everything, all things, fall into place.
This can be the focus of your day, your life…love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Whenever something starts taking over your mind with worry or anxiety, wondering what will happen, wondering if you will be okay, wondering if you are okay now, wondering why you are here or your purpose…wondering how you will cover the cost of something…anything that comes into your mind that brings stress or concern you can simply do this. Turn your focus onto loving the Lord your God with all of you. I promise you that all else will flow from that place in a way that is more satisfying and enjoyable than anything else you desire.
It is not through your own righteousness that this is possible. It is through the righteousness of God so you do not have to muster up the power or strength within yourself. It has already been provided. Simply accept and receive it and you will experience a faith equal to that of Peter’s who was tested, failed, and then restored to the fullness of the promises of God Himself.
To Him be the glory forever and ever, amen.
